Transformative Influence
Throughout history, Christian leaders and organizations have profoundly influenced society, fostering positive change through their unwavering faith and dedication. Today, First Baptist Church of Glenarden (FBCG) continues this legacy, transforming lives, renewing hearts, and blessing the community under God’s guidance.
Impacting Lives and Renewing Hearts
FBCG’s mission to develop dynamic disciples is evident in the countless testimonies of transformed lives. Through our various ministries and outreach programs, we see God’s hand at work daily. For example, our summer youth employment program has provided valuable job training and spiritual guidance to over 120 young people. This initiative not only equips them with practical skills but also instills in them a sense of purpose and faith. One participant shared, “This program changed my life. I learned not just job skills but how to walk in faith and purpose.”
Our commitment to addressing the community’s needs extends beyond youth programs. Through our food pantry and community health initiatives, we provide essential resources and support to those in need. During the pandemic, our congregation came together to distribute food, masks, and other supplies to over 5,000 families, exemplifying Christ’s love in action.
Additionally, FBCG offers a variety of ministries aimed at serving different segments of the community. The Children’s Discipleship Ministry helps children develop their faith, while the Senior’s Ministry supports older adults through activities like exercise classes and social events.
Equipping Leaders for Greater Influence
Being a part of Christian Leadership Alliance has significantly enhanced our ability to influence our community positively. The Credentialed Christian Nonprofit Leader (CCNL) program has been instrumental in equipping our team with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead effectively. Through this program, our leaders have gained insights into best practices in nonprofit management, fundraising, and strategic planning, all through a Christ-centered lens.
One of our leaders remarked, “The Outcomes Conference reinvigorated my passion for ministry..."
Moreover, attending the annual national Outcomes Conference has provided our team with invaluable opportunities for networking, learning, and spiritual growth. The sessions on leadership, governance, and innovation have inspired us to adopt new strategies and approaches, enhancing our ministry’s impact. One of our leaders remarked, “The Outcomes Conference reinvigorated my passion for ministry. The teachings and fellowship strengthened my resolve to serve with excellence and faithfulness.”
Additionally, the Outcomes Academy online courses have been a cornerstone in our continuous learning efforts. These courses offer flexibility and depth, allowing our team to delve into specific areas of interest and need. Topics such as board governance, financial management, and effective communication have been particularly beneficial, enabling us to operate with greater efficiency and transparency.
Celebrating Discipleship Programs and Graduation
A cornerstone of FBCG’s influence is our comprehensive discipleship programs.
A cornerstone of FBCG’s influence is our comprehensive discipleship programs. These programs are designed to develop dynamic disciples through teaching, mentorship, and community engagement. Our discipleship initiatives focus on winning others to Christ, discovering and using spiritual gifts, developing strong families, and growing to spiritual maturity.
Each year, we celebrate the achievements of our discipleship ministry graduates at a special ceremony. The Joint Discipleship Graduation, held in July, is a highlight for our church. It is a time to honor the commitment and growth of our members who have completed various discipleship programs. This event showcases powerful testimonies and highlights the transformative impact of our discipleship efforts.
Biblical Encouragement for Christ-Honoring Influence
In considering how we can continue to have a positive impact, it is essential to reflect on the biblical principles of influence. Jesus Christ, our ultimate example, influenced through service, humility, and unwavering commitment to God’s will. Philippians 2:3-4 reminds us, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” This Scripture underscores the importance of selflessness in our leadership and influence.
Furthermore, in Matthew 5:16, Jesus teaches, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” As Christian leaders, our actions and influence should always point others to God, bringing glory to His name.
A Journey of Influence
First Baptist Church of Glenarden’s journey of influence is a testament to God’s transformative power and the dedication of our leaders and congregation. Through our community initiatives and the support of the Christian Leadership Alliance, we continue to impact lives, renew hearts, and bless our community. As we strive to influence well, we are guided by biblical principles, ensuring that our efforts honor Christ and extend his love to those we serve.
